News Photography and Filming on Campus

As a public institution, the university permits media to photograph and film in public, outdoor spaces on campus. All members of the media who are interested in visiting should notify Strategic Communications in advance to help coordinate interviews, secure parking in approved areas, etc.

Media are not permitted to photograph or film inside any building on campus without explicit permission from this office. Requests for indoor interviews will be considered and approved or denied by the Office of University Branding, will be accompanied by a representative from the department, and will require advance notice and planning to secure appropriate space to accomodate lighting and sound requirements as most of our space is regularly occupied by students or faculty and staff. Any filming cannot disrupt classrooms or university business, and will require advance notification to the classroom as well as the media outlet to secure on-site release forms as needed. Exceptions include members of the media covering athletics events. Exceptions include members of the media covering athletic events. These individuals should coordinate directly with Mason Athletics.

All commercial filming and photography requests that plan to use the university name, image, likeness, and/or logo must be coordinated and approved with the Office of University Branding.
